It infuriates me when older people tell me, ”Well, you grew up with it,” in regards to technology. Like, the fuck I did. I didn’t get my first cellphone until like 2007. My junior year of hs. Prior to that, only the rich kids (or families w/ money) had a cellphone because they weren’t affordable on a mass consumer level. I’ll never forget in junior high when only two kids on campus had cellphones. ONLY two. One of them being my rich friend Brittany (lmao she was a bitch) and we all used to crowd around to look at this little weird ass device and GASP when it played 5 shitty seconds of a song (song was My Boo by Usher/Alicia Keys btw) that took one hour to get into the phone for this new-ish thing called a “ringtone.”
Then in regards to even social media we get, “Well, you grew up with it.” BITCH. We didn’t. These, now, wildly popular sites only started to pop roughly ten years ago. Most of us were in our mid to late teens, early twenties, like??? I’m bad at math, but bitch that’s basic counting. That “well, you grew up with it” argument is so flawed when talking to a late 80′s early 90′s baby. We have a foot in both worlds. We’re just more willing to learn new tech. LEARN. Watch some videos, read an article, and keep up instead of rejecting the new norm. Shit, and you call us lazy.
